Characteristics and Examples of Pessimistic People
Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence. — Helen Keller
#1. They will not pursue their desires because they are afraid of failing.
When a person is always thinking about what could go wrong or fail.
They are more concerned with the possibility of failure than the possibility of success when they want to do something. If that person focuses too much on failure, failure will come to dominate, and pessimistic people will be less likely to pursue their desires. Because their minds were already filled with scenarios in which what they were about to do would fail before they took action, before they made any real effort.
#2. Being surprised when what is done actually achieves the goal
This makes sense because a pessimist’s perspective of the world is typically negative, and when something positive occurs, they are actually surprised. People who typically wear glasses with blue lenses, for example. Then they removed his glasses and discovered that there were other colors, which surprised them as well. So a person who is pessimistic because they tend to see things negatively will feel unnatural or strange when they see something positive later.
#3. Always concentrate on what went wrong in a given situation.
Of course, when we do something, there are two outcomes: it can be right or wrong, successful or unsuccessful. The pessimistic person will focus on what could go wrong rather than what could go right. This condition will eventually impede their efforts because, before doing anything, it is as if their legs have been paralyzed, paralyzed by the fear of failure. They took a step before they tried, but they were no longer able to take a step because their efforts were paralyzed by pessimism.
#4. Is preoccupied with one’s own flaws rather than one’s own strengths.
When they wear negative glasses, everything they see will be negative. The good things appear to shrink in scale, but the weak or negative things, which are not actually large, appear to grow in size because their lenses use negative nuances.
#5. Believing that the risks are always greater than the benefits
Even if this is not the case, something may have a slim chance, but the risk is not always worthwhile. As an example, suppose statistics show that 90% of people who start a business fail. That equates to roughly 10% of the remaining businesses that can survive for more than five years. When we look at these statistics, we might ask ourselves, “Why do we become entrepreneurs?” 90% of entrepreneurs fail in the end.
The statistics on opportunities confirm this, but this does not imply that the risks outweigh the benefits. Even though many people fail to start a business, those who are successful usually plan ahead of time. They also have a strategy and tenacity, so they will succeed because the benefits far outweigh the risks.
#6. Frequently irritated by other people’s optimism.
They become irritated when they see someone with a positive attitude if they have a negative worldview. They don’t understand why other people are more optimistic, and “questioning why you have such a high level of positivism and so many hopes is like questioning why the majority of those hopes will fail later.”
Pessimists dislike people who hold opposing viewpoints.
#7. Believes that everything good must come to an end.
We recognize that nothing in this world lasts forever. A good thing will eventually come to an end, youth will grow old, and something new will gradually become dull or obsolete. The important point is that we should not then focus on the negative aspects.
We should not then focus on the disappointing ending. We should now assume that all good things come to an end, but not before those good things come to an end. We can still enjoy it, so we should make the most of what we have. However, if we have a pessimistic outlook, we will not notice this and may even think, “What is the point of doing this? After all, this good thing will come to an end sooner or later.”
As a result, a pessimist focuses on the negative and unpleasant. Unlike optimists who will say, “Make the best of it while we can still make the best of it,”
#8. It is easier to accept the status quo than to make positive changes.
A pessimist believes that whatever he attempts will fail, so he will not put forth much effort. As a result, they do not want to change their lives, and their lives will eventually end in a status quo. Their lives will never be dynamic or changeable; they will always be static.
You should be aware that, even if you don’t experience or think in these ways all the time, pessimistic people must engage in many of these types of thinking to some extent.
Hope is definitely not the same thing as optimism. It is not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out. — Vaclav Havel
